Beijing Shichahai (Chinese: 什刹海; Pinyin: Shíchàhǎi) is a picturesque old town consists of three lakes in the north of the city of Beijing, China. You are northwest of the Forbidden City and north-west of Beihai Lake.

Shichahai
Shichahai is a famous scenic area, the three lakes (Qian Hai, meaning Front Sea, Hou Hai, meaning Back Sea and Xi Hai, meaning Western Sea), providing places of historic interest and scenic Beauty and the remnants of the former residence of the Beijing Hutong and Courtyard. It is in the northwest of Beijing and covers a large area of 146.7 hectares (about 363 hectares).
In summer, tourists may hire boats to peddle on the lakes. In winter, many people come to skate.
In 1992 the Beijing municipal government declared the area a “historical and cultural scenic.”
Shichahai History
The history of Shichahai can as far back as the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234) can be attributed. During the Yuan Dynasty (1271 – 1368), it was the end point of the Grand Canal, a major reason for their prosperity. How to get to Shichahai
Beijing Shichahai is as close to the bell Towers and the drum Towers and the north gate of Beihai Park, visitors can take the bus to reach them, then visit Shichahai:
Take the subway line 4 and get off at the station Ping’anli. Leave the southeast exit. Walk along Xi Dajie Di’anmen east about 20 minutes before the north gate of Beihai Park in the south to find the road.
Take Bus 118, 107, 701, 823, 13, 42, 13, 111 and get off at Beihai in the (northern entrance of Beihai Park) or 60, 124 to Gu Lou (Drum Tower). Beihai Beimen station is located near Lianhua market, where it begins many pubs and rickshaw tour. Gu Lou station is located near Xiejie Yanda.
