Xi’an Xianyang International Airport
Xi’an Xianyang International Airport (simplified Chinese: 西安 咸阳 国际 机场; traditional Chinese: 西安 咸阳 国际 机场, pinyin: Xi’an Xianyang Guoji Jīchǎng) (IATA: XIY, ICAO: ZLXY) appears in Xi’an, the People’s Republic of China. Covering five square kilometers (1.9 square miles) is the largest airport in the north-west China. Due to the expansion of western China, visitors and freight traffic is growing rapidly. The airport was the center of China Airlines Northwest Airlines, until the company was China Eastern Airlines in 2002. Currently, the airport is connected to 79 other cities in the country and internationally.
Xi’an Xianyang International Airport History
In 2010 the airport handled 18,010,405 passengers, which is the largest airport in northwest China and the eighth busiest in the country. Xi’an Xianyang International Airport was the busiest airport in the 14th terms of cargo traffic and the ninth busiest airport traffic patterns. The airport is currently undergoing major expansion with a new terminal and the second track.
The airport is actually in the administrative district of Xianyang, which gives its name to the airport.
Before Xianyang Airport was built, Xian served Xiguan Airport (IATA: SIA, ICAO: ZLSN). In 1984, the State Council of the People’s Republic of China and the Central Military Commission has proposed to build a major airport for civilian use on the site of the airport to Xianyang. Phase 1 of the airport began construction in August 1987 and was completed and inaugurated on September 1, 1991. Xiguan Xi’an airport closed at the same time. Phase 2 began in August 2000 and ended September 16, 2003. In addition, in 2007, the airport has signed an agreement to exchange with the Pittsburgh International Airport in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, creating an “Air Silk Road”. Another RMB7.592 billion invested in the project will be built in 2020.
Since 2010, the airport is undergoing major expansion. 170 000 square meters of building the third terminal is built in collaboration with a second 3800 meters of track and related support facilities. After the expansion of the airport to 26 million passengers a year, and will become the fourth Chinese airport with independent parallel operation of instrument runways.

The construction of the airport Xian Xianyang International symbolizes the rapid development of the aviation industry in China. The airport covers an area of 5.64 million square meters (about 1393 acres). Xi’an Xianyang International Airport Terminals
Currently the airport has two terminal buildings, T1 and T2, with an area of 100,000 square meters. T1 was commissioned in 2007 and operates domestic routes. Available in T1 airlines include China Southern Airlines (Czech Republic), Xiamen Airlines (MF), Sichuan Airlines (3U), the Chongqing Airlines (OQ) and Joyair (JR).
T2 has a majority of all local and international air routes, departure and arrival in Xi’an. There are Air China (CA), China Eastern Airlines (MU), Hainan Airlines (HU), Shenzhen Airlines (ZH), Spring Airlines (9C), the Kunming Airlines (KY), airlines Chengdu ( EU), is well Airways (BK), Tianjin Airlines (GS), Shanghai Airlines (FM), Shandong Airlines (SC), Juneyao Airlines (HO), Capital Airlines (JD), Lucky Air (8L), West China Air (PN). It consists of the departure hall on 2nd floor, the arrivals hall on the layer on the first floor with eight gates from the finish, and a basement.
Tips:
